Parallel Excitation Experiments Using a Novel Direct Calibration Technique for RF-Pulse Determination

چکیده
Introduction: The concept of Parallel Excitation or Transmit SENSE [1-6] has shown its potential to reduce several problems of single channel excitation, e. g. offresonance or transverse relaxation effects, due to its pulse shortening capabilities. However, despite the shorter pulse lengths these deficiencies cannot be compensated completely. In this study a convenient and very general approach to determine Parallel Excitation pulses is presented, which not only further reduces the mentioned effects but also inherently compensates for other experimental imperfections, such as deviations of the real k-space trajectory from the desired one. Experiments of B1inhomogeneity compensation and inner volume excitation in a phantom and in a fixed rat demonstrate the feasibility of this approach.

RF Pulse Design for Parallel Excitation
1. Introduction Parallel excitation has been introduced as a means of accelerating multi-dimensional, spatially-selective excitation using multiple transmit coils, each driven by a unique RF pulse (1,2). In a manner analogous to parallel imaging, parallel excitation allows the use of a reduced excitation k-space trajectory (7) to achieve a desired excitation pattern, by exploiting the blurring ...

Introduction and Motivation Parallel excitation (PEX), in particular spatially selective excitation (transmit SENSE), is a key technique to tackle RF issues in high and ultra-field MR. Furthermore, new imaging and spectroscopic methods like inner-volume imaging and shaped-voxel spectroscopy might become feasible when using multi-channel transmit systems. Similar to parallel-receive experiments,...
متن کاملRobust Parallel Excitation Pulse Design
Introduction Parallel excitation employs multiple transmit channels and coils, each driven by independent waveforms, to afford the pulse designer an additional spatial encoding mechanism, i.e., transmit sensitivity encoding, that complements gradient encoding. However, in contrast to parallel reception, parallel excitation requires individual high-power amplifiers for each transmit channel, whi...

INTRODUCTION Parallel transmission is an emerging technique that has great potential in many applications such as reducing selective RF pulse duration and improving B1 and B0 field inhomogeneity in high fields [1-3]. A potential issue in parallel transmission is elevated RF power deposition which is characterized by the specific absorption ratio (SAR). In parallel excitation, the effect of elec...
متن کاملOptimal control design of constant amplitude phase-modulated pulses: application to calibration-free broadband excitation.
An optimal control algorithm for generating purely phase-modulated pulses is derived. The methodology is applied to obtain broadband excitation with unprecedented tolerance to RF inhomogeneity. Design criteria were transformation of Iz-->Ix over resonance offsets of +/-25 kHz for constant RF amplitude anywhere in the range 10-20 kHz, with a pulse length of 1 ms. Simulations transform Iz to grea...
